HDTV is where it now at.A standard television gives you a clear color picture. HDTV gives you an even sharper picture. Picture it this way, watching a standard TV is like viewing the world through a dirty windowpane. With HDTV, there is no window. The images on the television screen are as close to lifelike as you can get, that is, without actually getting off the couch and watching real-life images. An HDTV can accomplish this feat with its high resolution; a million pixels, often more, combine to create a brilliant picture that will wow any viewer.

You will pay more for an HDTV set. Fortunately, prices are falling every year. Five years ago, most people were priced out of the HDTV market.

But things are not always as straight forward as they seem. A new HDTV is the whole equation.First, you will need a high-definition cable or satellite box. This sends the HD channels to your television; without one, you can only watch standard programming. Second, you will need high-def channels. Your cable or satellite provider offers a line-up of HD channels, though the number of available HD channels is nowhere close the number of available standard channels. Third, you will need an HD show or movie. Not all shows broadcast on an HD station are necessarily high-definition; news programs are often broadcast in standard-definition, as are most daytime programs. If you are watching a standard-def show, you may see a black bar on either side of the screen. Also, since you are watching a standard-def show on a high-def screen, the picture will not be nearly as clear or as sharp as with an HD program. Only when you have all three elements – an HD box, channel and show – can you experience television like never before.

Forums- A One Way Ticket To Easy Free Traffic

If you are not using forums in your website now may be a good time to get started. With Google and Yahoo putting the emphasis on fresh new content, it is important for search engine optimization purposes to be adding fresh new content to your site on a daily basis. Forums can help get you that fresh new content. If done correctly you will have fresh new content added on a daily basis from your users and visitors with very little effort on your part.

Recently I have discovered just how easy it is to add a PHP bulletin board (forum) to my web site. First you need to download the script from http://www.phpbb.com . It’s a free download so don’t worry and they have a support section that explains how to install the script.

You will also need to make sure your host has PHP support and a MYSQL database configuration. In most cases this is an upgrade from your basic hosting package but the cost is minimal compared to the services that you will receive. PHP is a very powerful tool for your website.

If you don’t know anything about PHP or MYSQL, don’t worry about it. I use 2 different web host providers and in both cases the support I got was excellent. Both host providers voluntarily installed my PHP bulletin board script for me. All I had to do after it was installed was to go to my administration panel and start adding the subjects for my new forum.

Once you have set up your forum you will need to tell everyone about it. A forum is no good if there is nobody posting to it. If you have an e-mail list or e-mail a newsletter periodically, e-mail your list telling them about your new forum and inviting them to join.

One of the best ways to get new members to your forum is to use other forums. Put a link in your signature file inviting members to your forum. I currently have around 20 forums that I am a member of and try to post to on a regular basis. My signature file contains a link to my forum and to my blog. This also creates free traffic to my web site. I have heard of people who post to 100’s of forums on a regular basis just to get free traffic to their site. If you do this be very careful not to spam the forums. Only use affiliate links in your signature file. And always try to post something useful to the readers or it may be considered spam.

Once you start getting posts on your new forum from new users try to respond as much as you can. If it’s the person’s first post, be sure to welcome them to the forum and offer any assistance that they may need. The more posts on your forum the better. You don’t want people going to your forum to find nothing. It is better to have 30-40 posts all from yourself than to have no posts at all. When I started my first forum I did exactly that just to get it started and I continue to add posts on a regular basis.

Eventually your forum will take on a life of its own, creating fresh new content on a daily basis, giving you better search engine rankings, and all the FREE traffic your website can handle.

We are bombarded by diet fads at least a few times a year. Now, many of these fad diets are really good, and can help the right people to lose a few pounds when they are ready. I’ll repeat this one: when they are ready. It is an important concept to remember. A cigarette smoker doesn’t want to quit, won’t. The same concept transfers to the diet world. You must be a willing participant in order to see results.

If you know you need to drop a few pounds, but you seem unwilling to do the work, set yourself up with some good reading material. Learn as much as you can about the foods that you eat, the exercises you don’t do, and learn your family history. Chances are, the more you know, the more motivated you will be to get the ball rolling on a fitness plan.

Getting started is hard, there’s no doubt about it. But do it right. Get a membership at the local gym or YMCA. A personal trainer can help you to set goals and plan out a routine. Convince a buddy to join you, and make the most out of it. Soon, you will see some results. It will be addicting. Your progress will be your motivator.

You owe it to yourself to at least give it a shot. Use your membership for the month and see what happens. You can’t knock it if you don’t try it. Nobody has ever knocked the gym and said it is not worth it.

Vendors: Consider Selling to Government

In one area of government bidding, however, an effort to create a government-wide point of entry web site has resulted in an Internet purchasing marketplace called FedBizOpps. As of October 1, 2001 the Federal government requires federal agencies to use this system to post all their opportunities expected to exceed $25,000.

Although no such central web site exists for the over 87,000 state and local government agencies in the country, there are services available that match a company’s criteria with agency bids on the Internet, then send this information directly to them via email.

The benefits of using a bid matching service are detailed by Tammy Axlund, a Marketing Manager with Midland Resources who says, “(Using a Bid) service has helped us build a national database to keep track of the industry happenings throughout the country, rather than just our region. We have also been able to win a few bids of which we had no prior knowledge.”
Similarly, Teresa Eastman, the Inside Sales Manager for Accurate Safety Distributors, Inc. states “I no longer have to spend my days looking for bids individually, a needle in a haystack so to speak, instead (the bid service) does it all and sends them to me daily.”

While no service can provide your company with every bid opportunity from every state and local government agency, bid matching services greatly reduce a vendor’s time and money spent, allowing for additional time to be used to respond to bids.

e-Procurement Benefits for Government: Save time, Save money

In the recent past most agencies had to copy and mail their bid packages to any vendor who requested them, even though many would decide not to bid. Using an online e-procurement system allows agencies to simply provide vendors an electronic notice of their opportunities. This results in a tremendous savings in postage, paper, and time.

There have also been new efforts to simplify the entire procurement process for government agencies. For example, many agencies are having procurement systems customized for them using the Internet, driven by the need to disclose. Agencies used to be required to advertise all their requests for bid in the newspaper. But in recent years, the statutes in many states changed to permit advertising on the Web instead – which meets purchasing departments’ requirements to make contract information public.

While posting bid information may seem like a lot of work, it isn’t a duplicate process for government agencies because their sites serve a dual role as a vehicle for disclosure, and as their primary document archive. And usually only a minimal staff is required to keep the site up to date.

Karen Storm, director of Purchasing for Albany County, NY, explains that since joining the Capital Region Purchasing Group, an e-procurement system in upstate NY, “…our municipality has streamlined the bid distribution and vendor notification processes. This has saved us hours of repetitive clerical tasks and has significantly reduced our copying and mailing costs. Our vendors love the system because it provides them immediate access to our information at little or no cost.”

The City of Rochester Hills, Michigan, reports similar benefits, explaining that they have realized a savings of over $355,000 by posting approximately 85 solicitations from January to June of 2004 on their e-procurement system, the Michigan Inter-Governmental Trade Network. And, the Santa Rosa County School District Purchasing Department, which has been using an e-procurement system since the fall of 2000, says “The biggest benefit we have realized is that we no longer have to manage our bidder’s list. Our old bidder’s list had grown to over 20,000 vendors, most of whom never responded to solicitations. Managing the list was a burden that we do not miss!”

Many companies have been working with Purchasing Departments, to create customized e-procurement systems like the ones described above, that simplify and expedite the entire procurement process. And the best part is, they do this free of charge.

E-procurement systems provide many benefits for vendors as well. Vendors simply register themselves online with a system and create a profile specific to their products and/or services. Vendors then receive notices instantly by fax or e-mail every time bids are issued that match their profile and are given the ability to respond to quotes by fax or e-mail.

Systems like this can save companies significant amounts of time while increasing sales, it’s also a good way for tax dollars to help grow businesses of all sizes and generating new profit centers. At the same time, government agencies benefit by decreasing their spending, gaining more control and simplifying the procurement process.

Cheap Laptops for Gaming Possibly around the Corner

It was not too long ago when only a few brands made gaming laptops. They were simply like a low qty manufacturing plant. Did not sell a large amount but made a lot of markup on each one. The cost was just too large to justify purchasing these types of laptop for the masses. They were basically desktop computer rivals and the fastest, best laptop computer you could obtain. They typically created loads of buzz however I doubt loads of people would go out and buy laptop computers at high prices. Things appear as it they are set to change though because now the gaming notebooks sector has attracted the eye of larger brands.

Just envisage how much money these companies could be producing especially when utilizing their economies of scale. These brands have probably been losing a bit of money on cheap systems so this should be a welcomed opportunity. International manufacturers could surely find it simpler to get people to buy these laptop computers. For sure this would be the demise of the little companies? Now laptops for gaming will no longer be thought of as a specialist sector. I believe customers will trust the larger brands more if they buy something costly.

To my astonishment the branded gaming laptop computers are as good or even better than the best laptop computers at present. I reckon this will still be the ray of hope for littler retailers though. I don’t think people will prefer to have a similar configuration like everybody in this kind of market. Such consumers are traditionally tech savvy and can liken all the technical details. For this market niche, the components are generally more important instead of the appearance. All the changes are very beneficial from the potential purchasers standpoint. I would envisage some price wars occurring in this niche after the initial stages. Things alter so quickly in this industry that I can’t specifically produce any confident predications. New things are constantly coming out and that should hold costs relatively high. The global manufacturers have already launched their own gaming notebook range, so all we can do now is sit back and watch.

How To Get FREE Publicity Whenever You Want !

What you are about to read is a step by step guide to getting FREE publicity. Simply, this is advertising that costs nothing, yet can bring in regular and substantial orders for your products and services.

Regardless of the business you’re in, you always want publicity for your products and services. After all it is “free advertising” essential to the growth of your business.

However for maximum effect your publicity campaign must be well thought out and pre-planned.

This article shows you a step by step approach to getting FREE advertising through your publicity campaigns.

Step 1

You must determine beforehand where you intend to conduct your publicity campaign.

Which of the following are you targeting :

  • Printed Mass Circulation Media

  • Internet Publications

  • Radio

  • Television

  • Trade Shows

  • Other (e.g Industry publications)

Step 2

Write a Cover Note to the main decision makers.

The cover note should be short, no more than 100 – 150 words.

Explain why your article is news and why it will appeal to readers.

For example – If you offer people business opportunities, you could write something like :

Write a brief explanation of what your business opportunity is about. (Tell the editor what this opportunity is about.)

This business opportunity is aimed at people trying to achieve financial freedom. It is also useful for those already in business, who want to build multiple income streams. (Tell the editor who it is aimed at)

This will be of real value and interest to your readers. (Tell the editor his readers will find it of benefit)

If you intend to send the publicity material by snail mail, print the cover note on good quality, pastel coloured paper. Blue or Ivory works well.

Make sure your cover note is addressed to a named decision maker.

In general for newspapers this will be the City or News editor, for Radio and TV it will be the News Director and for all publications the Managing Director.

Step 3

Presentation and layout of the Publicity Release.

The Publicity Release is a short article no longer than 500 words.

The layout of the article is critical.

Make sure you have about one inch in margin at the top and bottom of the page. Allow one and a half inches margin around the left and right edges of the page.

In the top margin write in capitals PRESS RELEASE and DATE.

Set the date a day or two forward of your posting date if you intend to send the publicity release by post. This ensures the date is current when your release is opened.

If you are sending the release out by e-mail, set the date to the date you send the mail out.

Skip a line or two and then write in capitals FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Finally in the bottom margin write in capitals FOR MORE INFORMATION followed by your name and contact details.

Step 4

Writing the Press Release.

The Press Release uses the same techniques of copy writing as you would use in writing a sales letter or an advert.

Always write as you would to an individual. Make the article personal and connected to the reader.

Don’t forget that the first reader you have to get past is the editor or news director. Therefore keep the idea of new and news at the front of your mind as you write.

Quickly and clearly show why your article is new or news. What sets it apart from other stories running in the publication ? Describe how it helps the readers in a different, unique, cheaper, quicker or any other way.

Above all bring out why your story is of benefit to the editor’s readers. If he cannot identify the benefits you bring, he will not use your story !

Step 5

What you need to know about news editors and directors.

The first is they are very busy people. They literally have thousands of things to do and they have to make many and quick decisions often on limited information.

The second is they know why you are writing to them. They know you are looking for free publicity.

What does this mean for you ?

Firstly, your Press Release must quickly and clearly point out the benefits of your product.

There is no room for fluff or padding. Get to the point quickly.

Secondly, do not write about yourself, your opinions, or views, in the article. If the editor decides to use your copy, he will contact you for a biography.

Stick to the facts about the news item.

Thirdly, never round on an editor demanding why your Release was not used, or used in a different format. This will get your name marked and future submissions from you will be binned un-opened.

Treat editors with respect, after all they are giving you access for FREE to huge circulations, and they will treat you with equal respect.

If you take the time to learn what the editor and his readers want, and if you provide it in a readily useable format, then you will get your Publicity Releases published more often than not.

Step 6

Timing the Press Release.

For some products and services, particularly seasonal ones you need to ensure your releases are sent at the appropriate time.

For instance if you offer garden and landscaping services and products, you might want to time the Press Release for Spring.

You might also be in a business where you create products for your market at short notice. Here you might tailor your releases and products to general events in the news spotlight.

For instance when employment slowdown in the economy is a “livewire” news item you might send out a Release on your Resume Writing service.

One final kind of timing to keep in mind is publication or broadcast deadline.

Make sure you find out when the deadlines are and work towards getting your Release in before that cut off.

Creating well written, properly laid out Press Releases is the best possible way of getting FREE publicity and advertising on a massive scale.

How To Quickly Make Money With Your Website?

Quickly making money with a website is the dream of all new online marketers but can it be done and if so how is it done. This article tells what I did in order to start making money in less than 3 weeks with a brand new website in the competitive insurance industry.

The first step I took was to decide on a particular industry. Unlike many of the experts that advocate selecting a niche in order to exploit it, I choose the subjects for my websites based on the popularity of the subject matter in terms of consumer interest and of course profitability. For this particular website I chose to concentrate on insurance. This subject is very competitive and can be difficult to score well on in the search engines but to be honest that wasn’t my goal. Instead for every website I make I focus on having it make between $500 and $1000 within 6 months. The methods I use have made it possible to achieve this standard on 3 previous websites so I felt like I could do the same with insurance.

I want to set the story straight so it is only fair that I disclose the software platform that I use to make my websites. I currently make my websites using Site Build It. The features for this program are to numerous to mention in this article and I don’t want to focus on them here. I believe that you can still achieve a profitable website within a short timeframe using other software just not as fast as when using SBI.

As I stated earlier I set my sites on the insurance industry because the keyword bids are fairly high for advertisers of insurance products. You can find this type of information on Overture or if you have a Google Adwords account. Again I won’t go into specifics on how to do that research as it has been covered by other webmasters in better detail then I could describe.

I decided to set my website up to include all areas of insurance. With that in mind I created web pages for car insurance, home insurance, life insurance, health insurance and several other insurance categories. After setting up my main categories I concentrated on making web pages that point to the main category. For instance if my main category is car insurance and I have a web page built for it then I would make other pages such as California car insurance which point back to my main page on car insurance.

Here’s the tricky part normally I spend around 2 hours a night working on my website. That may sound like a lot of time to some people but I assure you, if you want to succeed you will find the time. Trust me – I work 13-14 hours a day at my main job, have 2 children under the age of 4 and am finishing up work on my Master’s degree. If I can find 2 extra hours a day anybody can. Use the desire to someday be your own boss and have enough money to be comfortable as your motivation to make it happen.

Typically what I do during that two hours includes the following: Make at least 1 or 2 new insurance web pages for my website, write 2 new articles and submit them to other websites that accept articles and try to find 2-3 new link exchange partners. The key piece that has allowed me to quickly make money on my websites in less then 3 weeks involves the articles. Every article I write links back to my website with a link in my signature box.
